Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses concentrated beams of light to remove unwanted hair. The laser targets the pigment in the hair, converting light energy to heat, which damages the hair follicles responsible for hair growth. This process inhibits or delays future hair growth, making it an effective long-term solution for hair reduction on areas such as the face, legs, arms, underarms, and bikini line.
The benefits of laser hair removal include long-lasting results, precision in targeting dark, coarse hairs without harming surrounding skin, and the ability to treat large areas quickly. Although multiple sessions are needed to achieve optimal results due to varying hair growth cycles, advancements in technology have made laser hair removal suitable for a wider range of skin and hair types, with most patients experiencing only mild discomfort during the procedure.

The Glo Bar Ruislip is dedicated to excellence and personalized care, ensuring each client receives a customized treatment plan for optimal results and minimal discomfort. Experience smooth, hair-free skin with a premium laser hair removal service.

Laser hair removal at The Glo Bar reduces unwanted hair by targeting the follicle at the root, not just the surface. Most clients need a full course of sessions, spaced around five weeks apart, before results become long-lasting rather than temporary. Here is exactly what that course involves, who it suits, and how to prepare.
The laser converts light to heat inside the follicle, disrupting the growth cycle rather than simply cutting hair at the surface, which is why results outlast shaving or waxing.
Hair grows in active, resting and shedding phases. Sessions are spaced to catch follicles as they re-enter the active phase, which is why a course, not a single visit, delivers lasting reduction.
Settings are adjusted for Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI, so darker and lighter skin tones are each treated at a setting that targets pigment in the hair safely, without unnecessary heat to the surrounding skin.
We assess your hair and skin type, review your medical history, and carry out a patch test to confirm the settings suit you before any full treatment begins.
You're asked to shave the area beforehand and avoid sun exposure, fake tan and certain actives so the laser can target hair pigment accurately.
A handheld device with a cooling tip passes over the area. Most clients describe a warm snapping sensation rather than pain, and sessions typically run 15–45 minutes depending on the area.
We talk you through soothing the skin for the next 48 hours, when to expect shed hairs to fall out, and book your next session in line with your growth cycle.
Average hair reduction reported after a completed course of laser hair removal sessions, based on published dermatology research.
General clinical consensus. Individual results vary by hair colour, skin type and area treated.
Laser hair removal uses a single, concentrated wavelength of light tuned to hair pigment, giving more consistent, targeted results. IPL uses a broader spectrum of light and generally needs more sessions to achieve a similar reduction.
Shaving is fine and recommended before each session. Avoid waxing, plucking or epilating between appointments, as these remove the hair root the laser needs to target.
Laser hair removal targets pigment (melanin) in the hair, so it works best on darker hair. Very light blonde, grey or red hair responds less predictably, and we'll be upfront about this at your consultation.
Treated hairs typically shed within one to three weeks after each session. Visible thinning across the area usually builds over the first two to three sessions as more follicles are caught in their active growth phase.
Shave the area the day before, avoid sun exposure and sunless tanning for at least two weeks prior, and skip retinol or exfoliating actives on the treatment area for a few days beforehand.
Alongside Ruislip itself, we regularly treat clients from Ruislip Manor, Eastcote, Northwood, Pinner, Ickenham and South Ruislip, all within easy reach of our High Street clinic.
